North Chadderton School
At North Chadderton School, we are committed to providing a supportive school environment with high standards and expectations for all our pupils. We have a long- established reputation for providing an academically challenging and creative education for all our students.
In 2012/3 North Chadderton School became a single site school, merging the lower and upper school sites together. In 2014 the school converted to academy status and eventually became the founding school of The Oak Trust MAT. We are extremely proud of our history at the heart of the local community and encourage all our students to learn the importance of contributing to the life of the school and the wider community.
Vision
During their time at North Chadderton School, our students acquire the knowledge and skills they need to be successful, whether that is success in their external examinations and assessments, or in becoming citizens who can contribute and participate positively in society.
Our school vision is ‘Transforming Lives Through the Power of Education’ because we believe that through our strong educational offer our students can explore and connect with a wide range of viewpoints and perspectives, as well as be able to establish their own unique identity and adapt their outlook towards the everchanging world around them. Thus, we want to ensure that all our students are school ready, so that when they leave us, they are work ready and life ready.
Values
Our school values are to ‘Work Hard, Be Kind and Make a Difference’. We believe that working hard teaches our students the importance of discipline, determination and dedication. Instilling a strong work ethic which will serve them well in school, in their future careers and their personal endeavours.
Being kind is fundamental to the mental health and happiness of all human beings, and this is something we promote and encourage in all our students and staff. We work together to develop well-rounded individuals who are compassionate, confident and caring, and will work collaboratively to make a positive contribution to our school community, as well as the local community they live in.
How have we benefited from being part of the Trust?
As a school we have benefitted enormously from the support of The Oak Trust. Our staff have worked collaboratively with the staff from the primary schools, sharing expertise and learning about the primary curriculum and their approach to high-quality teaching. The work undertaken by leaders has helped ensure the transition from primary to secondary is smooth and successful.
Furthermore, we have adopted a more collaborative approach towards Professional Growth, with staff from all schools working on similar pedagogical areas of interest.
Building and grounds
Our impressive school building reflects the pride and high expectations that we have of all our staff and students. We have a multi-use game area, a 3g pitch for a wide variety of sports, a brand new Science block with state-of-the-art laboratories, and an impressive library and resource centre space. Furthermore, we have a spacious indoor sports hall and gym, as well as a dance studio, a drama studio and the multi-use opera space, ideal for lectures and talks.
Curriculum
At North Chadderton School, we provide all our students with a knowledge-rich and progressively sequenced curriculum. The curriculum aims to provide students with deep knowledge in a broad and balanced range of subjects. Carefully considered planning and sequencing of content allows pupils to acquire and retain the core knowledge they need to be successful. All subject content is taught through high-quality teaching, which supports pupils in embedding common skills of writing, reading, oracy and numeracy. The rich and engaging curriculum provides students with the personal development and cultural capital they require to thrive, both in school and in life.
Extra-curricular
At North Chadderton School we offer a vast range of wider enrichment opportunities to all our students, whether it is Pokemon club, sports, reading club, or even Dissection club! Participating in extra-curricular activities is important in developing the confidence and interpersonal skills of students. Extra-curricular engagement encourages students to develop their creative skills and talents, as well as forging new friendships beyond the classroom.
Behaviour and standards
We are extremely proud to have created a learning environment in which our students and staff feel happy, valued and safe. We know that a happy and valued learner is a successful learner. Being successful is defined by high academic achievement and progress, and good conduct, but it is also knowing and demonstrating what it means to be a good person, to understand the ‘power’ of being good, being kind and being responsible for yourself and others. At North Chadderton School, we have high standards and expectations; students need to learn that choices have consequences. Good actions can and will be rewarded, but poor choices also have consequences. We know that students not only need the knowledge and skills to be competitive when they leave school, but they also need an education that strengthens their character, builds their confidence, empowers them to be able to differentiate between wrong and right, and to have the resilience to overcome obstacles they may face as they transition into adulthood.
SEND
Students with an EHCP and a diagnosis of ASD may be placed in our Base provision by the Local Authority. The Base offers specialist staff, enhanced staff-student ratios and specialist teaching and intervention. As well as being a space for teaching, the Base is also a place for students to have a meet-and-greet in the morning, individual mentoring sessions and a calm space for them to attend at break and lunchtime. We have a classroom, a sensory room, and a life skills room for discrete teaching of social and life skills.
How do we want students to leave us?
We want all our students, regardless of their background and ability, to leave us with the knowledge, skills and ambition to become confident, responsible and successful citizens, who are work ready and life ready.
